Armenia and Italy deepening co-operation in the justice sector - Karen Andreasyan meets with Italian counterpart

On October 6, Minister of Justice of Armenia Karen Andreasyan met with Minister of Justice of Italy Marta Cartabia in Rome.

Minister Andreasyan expressed gratitude for the opportunity for the meeting and emphasised that the Government of Armenia is interested in giving a new impetus to the relations between Armenia and Italy.

Stressing that justice reforms are among the most important directions on the agenda of the Government of Armenia, Karen Andreasyan presented to the Italian counterpart the activities implemented in the justice sector during the last three years, as well as touched upon the anti-corruption agenda, human rights protection, police reforms, reforms in the penitentiary system and in other sectors in Armenia.

During the conversation with Marta Cartabia, Karen Andreasyan stressed that the Government of Armenia has succeeded in creating new and transparent institutions with the support of international partners, including European partners. In this context, the Minister expressed his gratitude to Italy for introducing the Strengthening Anti-Corruption Reforms in Armenia Program, through which the OSCE is helping the Government of Armenia to create an Anti-Corruption Committee. Let us remind that the Republic of Italy is the main donor state for the Program.

The Minister of Justice of Armenia invited Marta Cartabia to visit Armenia.

The meeting was followed by the signing ceremony of a memorandum aimed at deepening co-operation between the Justice Academies of the two countries.

The document was signed by Minister of Justice of Armenia Karen Andreasyan and President of the Institute of Justice of Italy Giorgio Lattanzi.
