Deputy Minister of Justice Arpine Sargsyan presents the model for establishing Ministry of Internal Affairs at sitting of the Police Reform Coordination Council

A sitting of the Police Reform Coordination Council took place under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The initial model of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was considered at the sitting. Deputy Minister of Justice Arpine Sargsyan presented the functional and structural map for the establishment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in that context referring to the main functions, subdivisions, the schedule for consideration of the legislative package and other related issues. It was noted that the proposed model was refined with mutually acceptable recommendations submitted by the interested agencies and civil society during the previous sitting of the Council.

An exchange of views was held, a wide range of issues related to the structure, functions, concept of management and organisation of works, social security mechanisms of employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to be established were raised.

Attaching importance to the establishment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prime Minister noted that the Government has initiated this reform in order to create an institutionally optimal structure and to introduce a reliable system of social guarantees for employees. Accordingly, it must have a cost-effective structure with clear and unique functions. The Head of the Government assigned the responsible persons to discuss the raised questions in the format of the inter-agency working group, develop recommendations and ideas for their solution under the leadership of the Ministry of Justice, moving forward according to the envisaged schedule.

Within the framework of the sitting, Deputy Head of the Police Ara Fidanyan submitted the 2021 report on implementation of the Strategy for Police Reforms and the 2020-2022 Action Plan and the works to be done in the next 6 months.
