Armenia makes progress in anti-corruption field and in area of independent courts, surpassing all Eastern Partnership countries

Deputy Minister of Justice Yeranuhi Tumanyants attended the concluding conference entitled "Judicial and Legal Reforms and Access to Justice" organised by the European Union, the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ) and the Court Administration of Latvia within the scope of the "Consolidation of the Justice System in Armenia" Project.

In her opening remarks, Deputy Minister Tumanyants expressed gratitude to the representatives of the European Union and the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ), Head of the "Consolidation of the Justice System in Armenia" Project Peter Gortler and all the international partners for the effective co-operation within the scope of the Project that was implemented and for the positive results recorded.

The Deputy Minister also informed that, on the same day, the concluding session of the Steering Committee of the "Consolidation of the Justice System in Armenia" Project was held, during which the course of implementation of the Project and the achievements made were touched upon, and the achievements were positively assessed by the Ministry of Justice. In this context, the Deputy Minister emphasised the importance of the activities targeted at the establishment of an arbitration centre and a new penitentiary institution in Armenia through close co-operation and with the support of the partners of the European Union within the scope of the Project.

Deputy Minister Tumanyants also noted that, based on the 2020-2021 Eastern Partnership Index, as a result of the co-operation with the European Union and the implemented reforms, Armenia has made a positive progress in the anti-corruption field and in the area of independent courts, surpassing all Eastern Partnership countries.

Deputy Minister Tumanyants added that, parallel to the adoption of the Strategy for Judicial and Legal Reforms, the Ministry of Justice will be consistent with implementation of the actions pre-determined under the "Consolidation of the Justice System in Armenia" Project and the Strategy.
