Issue of possibility of institutional changes at Academy of Justice under consideration

Deputy Minister of Justice Arpine Sargsyan delivered an opening speech at the discussion of the report on reforms of the legislation on the Academy of Justice.

Arpine Sargsyan attached importance to the idea of reforming the Academy of Justice within the scope of judicial and legal reforms and highlighted that, in the context of the policy of the Government, importance is attached to consolidation of the educational process of entities involved in the chain of justice, which will allow to ensure preparation and training of sector-specific specialists within a unified logic, thus expanding the scope of beneficiaries of the Academy of Justice. Consequently, according to Sargsyan, proper representation of all interested institutions in the management board of the Academy should be ensured.

As the Deputy Minister noted, the report is a preliminary assessment, and the results of the meeting will allow to develop the proposals stated in the report or transform them, or to insert new proposals, expressing willingness to continue discussions with both the expert team and interested institutions.

In her speech, Deputy Minister Sargsyan expressed gratitude to the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Office of the U.S. Embassy for the effective co-operation with the Ministry of Justice and the Academy of Justice, and stated that it is also based on the results of that co-operation that the possibility of institutional changes in the Academy of Justice is being considered.

Director of the INL Office Alexis Haftvani, Rector of the Academy of Justice Sergey Arakelyan and Chairperson of the Court of Cassation Lilit Tadevosyan also delivered their welcoming speeches.

Within the scope of the meeting, an active and substantive discussion was held with the participation of representatives of all the interested institutions. An agreement was reached to gather all the opinions again and improve the presented conceptual approaches by taking them into consideration.

The report on "The directions for reforms of the legislation on the Academy of Justice and the conceptual recommendations within the scope of the directions" has been developed under the high patronage of the INL Office, executed by the International Development Law Organization (IDLO).
