Head of Department of International Legal Cooperation of the Ministry of Justice Anahit Abrahamyan participates in meeting organised within the scope of the Third Voluntary Mid-term Report of the Republic of Armenia of the UN Universal Periodic Review

Head of the Department of International Legal Cooperation of the Ministry of Justice Anahit Abrahamyan participated in the meeting organised within the scope of the Third Voluntary Mid-term Report of the Republic of Armenia of the UN Universal Periodic Review. The event was also attended by UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia Natia Natsvlishvili and other representatives of interested structures. The main issues on the agenda of the Third Mid-term Report of the “Universal Periodic Review” of the Republic of Armenia (UPR) concerned the legislation of the Republic of Armenia, access to justice, protection and strengthening of human rights, as well as the issues existing in the social and healthcare sectors. In her speech, Anahit Abrahamyan spoke about the administration of justice, fair trial, access to justice and compensation, implementation of the National Strategy for Human Rights Protection, prevention of tortures and ill-treatment and the conditions of detention. Abrahamyan presented the activities that the Ministry of Justice has carried out in the above-mentioned directions, as well as the activities to be envisaged in the near future; in particular, she stated that large-scale activities have been carried out in the direction of judicial and legal reforms — the new 2022-2026 Strategy for Judicial and Legal Reforms has been developed through review of the Strategy for 2019-2023. Abrahamyan informed that the activities for development of the new 2023-2025 Action Plan of the Human Rights Defender have been launched, and the recommendations on the 2023-2025 Action Plan have been received from the interested government agencies and civil society representatives (the recommendations were submitted to the experts of the UNDP after they were summed up). Abrahamyan also emphasised the issues regarding legal equality, violence against women, racial discrimination, effective governance and corruption, freedom of opinion and expression, as well as access to information.
