Results of the Project "Implementation of judicial reforms" are summarised

Under the co-chairmanship of Deputy Minister of Justice Armenuhi Harutyunyan, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan Martina Schmidt and Deputy Head of Co-operation Department of the European Union Delegation to Armenia Silia Casman, the closing conference of the Project "Implementation of judicial reforms" and the extended sitting of the Steering Commission were held.

The Project was implemented within the framework of the EU/Council of Europe Partnership for Good Governance (2019-2022) project format with the support of the Council of Europe.

In her speech, Armenuhi Harutyunyan stated that the format of the event is exclusive in its significance and richness since two remarkable projects, i.e. "Support to the judicial reform — enhancing the independence and professionalism of the judiciary in Armenia" and "Supporting the criminal justice reform and harmonising the application of the European standards in Armenia" were presented.

In her speech, the Deputy Minister stated that a number of reforms have been carried out within the framework of the above-mentioned project from the perspective of independence of the judiciary in Armenia, the effectiveness of legal procedures and the accessibility of justice. In this context, legal assistance has been provided to the processes following the constitutional reforms of the sectors of justice, judicial system and disciplinary mechanisms, as well as the application of mediation and arbitration in Armenia was brought in line with the recommendations and standards of the Council of Europe.

Within the framework of the Project "Supporting the criminal justice reform and harmonising the application of the European standards in Armenia", assistance was rendered for the reforms in the criminal justice sector by providing legislative, methodological and capacity-building assistance.

The Deputy Minister of Justice stressed that the Project was aimed at creating a common platform so that the representatives of state and judiciary bodies, the key specialists and experts of the sector, representatives of the civil society had the opportunity to discuss not only the already implemented projects, but also outline the directions through which the collaboration between Armenia and the Council of Europe should progress.

Armenuhi Harutyunyan highly appreciated the level of existing collaboration and reaffirmed the readiness of the Ministry to achieve maximum results.
