A number of questions on ensuring the rights of asylum seekers, refugees are discussed at the Ministry of Justice

Head of the Department for International Legal Co-operation of the Ministry of Justice Anahit Abrahamyan and Director of the "Centre for Legislation Development and Legal Research" Foundation Tigran Dadunts received the members of the Armenian Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

The following persons were among them: Elen Hovhannisyan, Head of the Programmes Division of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Marine Antonyan, Senior Specialist on Issues of Refugee Protection, Aramazd Ghalamkaryan, Head of International Relations Department.

Issues on mechanisms for legal protection of asylum seekers, refugees were discussed at the meeting.

The 2023-2025 Action Plan deriving from the National Strategy on Human Rights Protection was addressed, and it is envisaged to pay special attention to the issues of refugees within its framework.

During the discussion, the vision on collaboration was outlined, an agreement was reached to work jointly in the sector of mutual legal assistance, as well as to implement educational programmes and trainings together with the Academy of Justice and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is concerned with the issues of asylum seekers, refugees, persons displaced from Artsakh, those in refugee status, as well as the persons internally displaced from the borderline communities of the Republic of Armenia, the persons displaced from Syria and stateless persons.
