The Ministry of Justice, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, organized a two-day session of the Armenia-US strategic dialogue "Justice and Law Enforcement and Democracy" working groups, which was co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Justice Karen Karapetyan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Paruyr Hovhannisyan, US Anti-Narcotics and Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Law Enforcement Cooperation James Applegate, as well as US Ambassador to Armenia Kristina Kvien.
Deputy Minister of Justice Levon Balyan also participated in the two-day session.
In his speech, Deputy Minister Karen Karapetyan referred to the "Armenia Integrity" and "Support to the Justice Sector of Armenia" programs implemented by USAID and emphasized their importance to the ongoing judicial reforms and the fight against corruption, as well as the support provided to MoJ’s "Center for Legislation Development" Foundation.
Karen Karapetyan also emphasized the importance of the formation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the introduction of the patrol service in Yerevan, the Justice Academy and other joint activities with INL’s support.
The "Together Against Human Trafficking" program implemented with INL’s support was also highlighted, which aims to make the detection, referral, identification and support of trafficked or exploited persons more effective.
The parties emphasized RA-US strategic cooperation in the field of mutual legal assistance.
During the two-day session, the parties also referred to the results achieved in the direction of joint protection of human rights and development of democratic institutions.
