Deputy Minister of Justice Ara Mkrtchyan and Rector of the Academy of Justice Sergey Arakelyan received Deputy Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Republic of Armenia Timen Kauvenar and Professor of Leiden University Niels Blokker. In his welcoming remarks, the Deputy Minister remarked that the Academy is the best institution of legal education with a high reputation and status where persons who have received basic legal knowledge and who choose the path to becoming a judge, prosecutor or investigator, become specialised, and later in their careers, they become familiar with the development of law and the challenges of the profession. In this stage of co-operation, the Deputy Minister attached special importance to the Republic of Armenia becoming a full-fledged member of the International Criminal Court. The Deputy Minister indicated the organising of the processes following ratification of the Rome Statute for the purpose of reviewing the domestic procedures, bringing the logic of the Statute into compliance and ensuring fulfilment of the commitments assumed by the Republic of Armenia, under the co-ordination of the Ministry of Justice. Ara Mkrtchyan voiced hope that there will be more active steps for co-operation within the scope of the aforementioned.

After the meeting, Professor of Leiden University Niels Blokker delivered a lecture on "New International Tribunal Relating to Crimes of Aggression" for the trainees and staff of the Academy.

Let us mention that earlier, Minister of Justice Grigor Minasyan had had a meeting with Temporary Chargé d'Affaires of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Republic of Armenia Jaap Frederiks during which a number of agreements had been reached with regard to co-operation over the development of courts and human resources and the activities being carried out in other directions.
