All preconditions created for developing institute of mediation

On 21 January, on the occasion of the International Day of Mediation, an event was held with the participation of Director of the "Centre for Legislation Development and Legal Research" Foundation Tigran Dadunts. The aim of the event was to discuss with the professional community the importance of mediation and the need for developing it into a well-established culture in Armenia.

In his remarks, Tigran Dadunts noted that the advancement of this direction is a political priority in Armenia. For this very reason, a significant role was assigned for the development of the mediation sector through the Programme of the Government and the Strategy for Judicial and Legal Reforms. In this context, over the past two years, the Ministry of Justice has implemented extensive reforms to revitalise the mediation sector. What was indicated was the introduction of compulsory mediation in family cases, the introduction of on-line mediation institutions, encouragement for mediators, the creation of an e-mediation platform, as well as the qualification of new mediators and the unprecedented interest in the sector. In this context, Tigran Dadunts also attached importance to the role of the newly established Arbitration and Mediation Center, with the hope that the Center's mission will be targeted at the development of mediation, along with arbitration.

In her speech, Director and Secretary General of the Arbitration and Mediation Center of Armenia Tatevik Matinyan attached importance to the fact that today, among other advanced countries, Armenia also celebrates International Day of Mediators, which is commendable. The event was attended by mediators, lawyers, judges and other professionals of the sector.
