Minister of Justice and Ambassador of Latvia consider opportunity of deepening partnership in justice sector

Minister of Justice Grigor Minasyan attached importance to the co-operation between Armenia and Latvia in the justice sector and expressed willingness to deepen the co-operation during the meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to Armenia, Mrs Edite Medne. The Minister expressed gratitude for the support of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Latvia and the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau of Latvia in implementation of the EU Twinning Project "Promoting Integrity and Preventing Corruption in the Public Sector in Armenia", as well as emphasised the importance of continuity of the Project or undertaking new programmes and projects in this sector.

The Ambassador inquired about application of the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement and implementation of the functions for approximation of the national legislation to the EU legal system on the part of the Ministry of Justice. In this subtext, the Ambassador also presented the scope of Master's Degree Programmes being carried out by the Riga Graduate School of Law, underscoring the interest of the Latvian party in the active involvement of representatives of the Ministry of Justice.

The Minister attached importance to the organising of reciprocal high-ranking visits with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Latvia, which will serve as new impetus for the expansion and deepening of co-operation between the two countries. In this context, the Minister indicated the good practice and progress of the Latvian party in the fight against corruption, in the digitisation sector and in the penitentiary and probation sectors.

The parties also considered the opportunity of organising international events in Armenia, jointly with the European Public Law Organization and the Ministry of Justice. In his remarks, Grigor Minasyan also talked about the organising of the upcoming Armenian-Georgian Legal Forum and invited the Latvian party to participate in the regional forum. At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to strengthen the relations and predetermined the opportunities for future co-operation.
