Main directions of Anti-Corruption Strategy and the Action Plan arising from the Strategy, reforms being implemented in penitentiary and probation sectors — Deputy Ministers receive delegation of Alexis Haftvani

Deputy Ministers of Justice Levon Balyan and Karen Karapetyan received the delegation led by INL Director (Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs) of the U.S. Department of State Alexis Haftvani. The Deputy Ministers highly appreciated the existing co-operation between the Ministry of Justice and the U.S. Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement.

Karen Karapetyan presented the main directions of the 2023-2026 Anti-Corruption Strategy and the Action Plan arising from the Strategy, as well as the steps that have already been taken. Representatives of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement of the U.S. Department of State presented the Advancing Comprehensive Anti-Corruption Reforms in Armenia programme launched by the East-West Management Institute, as well as the main goals and directions of the programme.

The parties also touched upon the deepening of co-operation in the field of Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT), in particular the possibility of providing expert and technical assistance within the scope of the presented programme.

During the meeting, Levon Balyan presented the reforms being implemented in the penitentiary and probation sectors and particularly touched upon the use of electronic tools within the scope of alternative ways of serving punishment.

The parties agreed to work more closely in this direction and continue the exchange of ideas. As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue the fruitful co-operation and expand its scope.
