Process of investigating electoral crimes and other violations discussed with civil society representatives

A working discussion on the proper response to violations in electoral processes, the examination of applications and reports and the progress of criminal cases was held at the Ministry of Justice. Among the participants of the meeting were Chairperson of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor Artur Sakunts, representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the Prosecutor General's Office, the Investigative Committee, the Anti-Corruption Committee and the Central Electoral Commission. The discussion concerned the issues proposed by the "Union of Informed Citizens" NGO and Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor for consideration during the upcoming session of the Anti-Corruption Policy Council. In particular, the status of examination of applications and reports on violations in electoral processes, as well as the process of investigations of electoral crimes were touched upon. Issues related to the maintenance of statistics on electoral crimes, proper and timely provision of information on electoral violations, as well as initiation of criminal proceedings on and proper investigation of electoral crimes were discussed. At the end of the meeting, it was decided to continue the working discussions to provide solutions for the issues raised.
