Armenia and Norway to deepen co-operation in strategic directions in justice sector — Deputy Minister receives Ambassador

Deputy Minister of Justice Karen Karapetyan received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Norway to Georgia and Armenia Bergljot Hovland. At the outset of the meeting, the Deputy Minister congratulated the Ambassador on assuming the responsible position and expressed gratitude for her visit to Armenia and for the initiative to organise the meeting. The Deputy Minister expressed confidence that maximum efforts will be made for further development of the relations between the two countries to improve the quality of democracy and justice in Armenia. During the meeting, Karen Karapetyan expressed gratitude to the Government of Norway for voluntarily allocating funds in support of the Council of Europe Action Plans for Armenia for 2019-2022 and 2023-2026. In this context, the Deputy Minister touched upon the fruitful co-operation between the Ministry of Justice and the Council of Europe and attached importance to the results achieved by the Ministry within the scope of the Council of Europe Projects in the field of human rights protection, judicial and legal sector, and the anti-corruption policy, as well as in the penitentiary and probation sectors. Karen Karapetyan also presented the work done by the Ministry to modify the draft Laws "On national minorities" and "On ensuring of legal equality and protection from discrimination". Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Bergljot Hovland highly appreciated the work done by the Government and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia in the field of human rights protection, including the work done for guaranteeing the rights of persons forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh. At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their willingness to continue and deepen co-operation in the strategic directions of the activities of the Ministry of Justice.
