Technical Assistance Project for EU Budget Support Programme “Support to Justice Reforms in Armenia — Phase II" kicks off — Deputy Minister receives EU delegation

Deputy Minister of Justice Karen Karapetyan received the delegation led by Head of Co-operation section at EU Delegation to Armenia Frank Hess and Project Manager of the Technical Assistance Project for the EU Budget Support Programme “Support to Justice Reforms in Armenia — Phase II" Yannis Sofianopoulos.
Welcoming the delegation, the Deputy Minister attached importance to the high level of co-operation between the two institutions aimed at ensuring qualitative progress in justice reforms.
During the meeting, the objectives of the Programme and the activities envisaged within the scope of the Programme for implementation of the 2022-2026 Strategy for Judicial and Legal Reforms and the 2023-2026 Anti-Corruption Strategy, the Action Plan for the Penitentiary and Probation Sectors, as well as capacity-building of the Ministry of Justice to manage and monitor budget support programmes, were presented.
In particular, the topics of discussion included the support for development of alternative mechanisms for settlement of disputes, the directions for involvement in the reforms being implemented with respect to the judicial system and courts’ infrastructures in the Republic of Armenia, as well as possible assistance to anti-corruption communications.
At the end of the meeting, the parties reached an agreement to carry out joint activities under the Technical Assistance Project within the scope of the upcoming actions in the judicial-legal sector, the anti-corruption field and the penitentiary sector, as well as expressed their willingness to facilitate the co-ordination of donor assistance in the mentioned sectors and fields and ensure the EU-Armenia dialogue.
