Armenia reaffirms its commitment to combating impunity for crimes posing a threat to global security — workshop held in regard to ICC Rome Statute Post-Ratification Process

19/08/2024

Deputy Minister of Justice Armenuhi Harutyunyan participated in the Workshop for the Key Actors within Armenian State Institutions on the Substantive and Procedural Law of the International Criminal Court. The Deputy Minister noted that on 3 October 2023, Armenia ratified the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, which entered into force on 1 February 2024.

By ratifying the Statute, Armenia reaffirmed its commitment to combating impunity for the gravest crimes posing a threat to global peace and security. This decision reflects Armenia's commitment to the principles of human rights protection and the rule of law.

The co-operation of the Ministry of Justice with international partners, particularly the one-year project "Support to Armenian Authorities in the Rome Statute Post-Ratification Processes" — launched within the scope of co-operation with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands — is equally important in the Rome Statute ratification and post-ratification processes.

This initiative is being implemented by trusted partner, that is, the "Europe in Law" non-governmental organisation, in co-operation with the Ministry of Justice, due to which this workshop was also organised; thanks to the co-operation, legal acts are also developed, there is support to awareness-raising and capacity-building of professionals of the sector..
