Armenia to appoint a prosecutor for co-operation in Eurojust — Karen Karapetyan submits draft law to the National Assembly

Deputy Minister of Justice Karen Karapetyan submitted the draft Law "On ratifying the Agreement between the Republic of Armenia and the European Union on Cooperation between the Competent Authorities in the Sphere of Legal Co-operation in the Sphere of Criminal Proceedings of the Republic of Armenia and the European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation (Eurojust)" to the National Assembly. The Agreement stipulates that the Republic of Armenia shall appoint a prosecutor for co-operation in order to carry out communication and co-operation between the competent authorities of Eurojust and Armenia. In its turn, Eurojust may appoint its contact representative, a Magistrate for Cooperation in Yerevan. Karen Karapetyan mentioned that application of these procedures will help to ensure the required speed of communication with EU members and third countries, and special attention will be paid to the protection of personal data. Let us mention that in addition to the EU member states, 13 non-EU member states have also signed the Eurojust Co-operation Agreement,, and Armenia will be the 14th.
