Visit of UNODC delegation to Armenia summed up — International colleagues make recommendations

Deputy Minister of Justice Levon Balyan received the delegation carrying out a needs assessment mission in the field of penitentiary and probation reforms on behalf of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and summed up the results of the four-day activities.

During the meeting, the Deputy Minister once again expressed gratitude to the international colleagues for the visit and highlighted the importance of co-operation. UNODC Inter-Regional Advisor Philipp Meissner and representative of the UNODC Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Department Vera Tkachenko highly appreciated the initiatives being implemented by the Ministry of Justice for effective activities in the penitentiary and probation sectors.

The international colleagues particularly welcomed the reforms carried out at "Abovyan" and "Armavir" Penitentiary Institutions and the activities of the "Legal Education and Rehabilitation Programmes Implementation Centre". At the end of the meeting, the international colleagues made proposals and expressed their willingness to continue the co-operation.
