National Archives opens "Yerevan throughout time. Years between 1800 and 1917" exhibition featuring archival documents and photographs

The National Archives of Armenia of the Ministry of Justice has opened the "Yerevan throughout time: Years between 1800 and 1917" temporary exhibition featuring archival documents and photographs. Acting Minister of Justice Armenuhi Harutyunyan; Deputy Head of Mission to the Embassy of the Kingdom of Sweden in Armenia, Head of the Department for Development Co-operation Klas Waldenström; Human Rights Program Director of Eurasia Partnership Foundation Isabella Sargsyan; Director of the Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts (Matenadaran) Ara Khzmalyan and other guests attended the exhibition.

Armenuhi Harutyunyan highlighted the role of the National Archives in bearing and preserving the historical memory of the Armenian people, noting that the National Archives is tasked with preserving, updating and conveying new life to documents, ancient instruments of ratification presenting the history of the Armenian people, evidence of which is the exhibition devoted to the city of Yerevan, and it would be impossible to have a vision for the future of Armenians without knowing about the past. Acting Minister of Justice Armenuhi Harutyunyan expressed gratitude to the Embassy of the Kingdom of Sweden in Armenia and the Eurasia Partnership Foundation for assisting in organising the exhibition.

Director of the National Archives of Armenia Artur Stepanyan informed that the exhibition showcases Yerevan from different angles — the structure for management of the city of Yerevan; the first mayors; the justice and healthcare systems with their major functions; the economic, social, educational and cultural life and historical structures of Yerevan, with the merchants, artisans, philanthropists and remarkable dynasties that are typical of this period.

 

Hosted at the National Archives, the exhibition featured archival documents stored exclusively in the National Archives of Armenia for taking a trip back to the past centuries through architectural projects and photographs of various structures in order to see and get acquainted with Yerevan of the past.

The "Yerevan throughout time: Years between 1800 and 1917" temporary exhibition of the archival documents and photographs devoted to Yerevan is open for visitors. The Ministry of Justice urges citizens and guests of the capital to visit and witness interesting and unique facts about Yerevan.
