08/11/2024

During the second stage of trainings launched within the scope of the nationwide whistle-blowing campaign, 13 trainings have already been conducted, and more than 300 students, pupils, teachers, representatives of the private sector and local self-government bodies have undergone trainings. Overall, 21 trainings are planned to be held in Yerevan and 4 marzes of the Republic of Armenia, meaning there will be trainings for 600 persons.

Attending the trainings, Adviser to the Minister of Justice Liana Tovmasyan presented the nationwide whistle-blowing campaign, highlighting that, based on the results of the campaign, the highest monthly indicator was recorded in October 2024 — 40 whistle-blowing reports as compared to the previous 2-5. Whereas 116 reports were received through the platform in 2023, as of 8 November 2024, 293 reports are already received, meaning that the number of reports is currently more than twice the number of reports submitted during the previous years since 2019.

Liana Tovmasyan also mentioned that as a result of co-operation with colleagues from the Prosecutor General's Office, the qualitative indicators of the reports also increased. Between January and October 2024, 57.71% of the reports submitted to the platform were verified through operational intelligence measures. This serves as evidence of the fact that the contents of the reports that are submitted has become more precise and targeted.

During the awareness-raising and educational events being held within the scope of the Project, the institution of whistle-blowing, types of whistle-blowing and means of protection of whistle-blowers, the ways of using the unified platform of whistle-blowing are presented to the participants. The trainings are conducted with the active involvement of the members of target groups, and this contributes to increased awareness about the whistle-blowing system and its role as an instrument for combating corruption.

The trainings are conducted by the "Armenian Lawyers Association" NGO with funding provided by the USAID.
