Deputy Minister of Justice discusses with international colleagues the issues concerning reform of mechanisms for evaluation of judges, digitisation of the justice sector, reforms in the penitentiary and probation sectors, and other issues

Deputy Minister of Justice Anna Karapetyan met with Director of Human Rights Directorate of the Council of Europe's Secretariat Clare Ovey. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Head of the Cooperation Programmes Division of the Council of Europe Lilit Daneghian, and Deputy Head of the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan Vedran Ian-Kjeldsen. Greeting the guests, the Deputy Minister emphasised the importance of the ongoing support of the Council of Europe in the reforms being implemented by the Ministry of Justice and the established and sustainable co-operation.
The parties discussed the successes recorded in various directions considered as priorities for the Ministry, as well as the outcomes of the co-operation between the Republic of Armenia and the Council of Europe. The reform of mechanisms for the evaluation of judges, the formation of a community of mediators and ongoing support to the latter, the digitisation of the justice sector, reforms in the compulsory enforcement, penitentiary and probation sectors, as well as other related issues.
The Deputy Minister also presented the progress of constitutional reforms, the steps taken for easing the workload of courts, as well as the Ministry's vision for the improvement of procedural legislation. Clare Ovey highly appreciated the visible and substantive outcomes of the reforms being implemented, including the success already recorded in the unburdening of courts.
At the end of the meeting, the Head of the Human Rights Directorate of the Council of Europe's Secretariat expressed her gratitude for the productive discussion, expressing willingness to enhance the effective co-operation in the predetermined directions. The parties mutually reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying joint efforts and ensuring the continuity of the steps that are being taken.
