Within the scope of the working visit to Singapore, Srbuhi Galyan held meetings with the Presidents of Singapore International Arbitration Centre and Singapore International Mediation Centre. The representatives of the Centres presented the work and functions of the Centres and spoke about the peculiarities of arbitration and mediation. The importance of the Singapore Convention on Mediation was underscored. The Minister spoke about the Arbitration and Mediation Centre of Armenia (AMCA), the establishment of which serves as a major step for developing alternative dispute resolution methods. The colleagues were introduced to the history and achievements of the AMCA’s activities in this period. It was noted that, during the establishment of the Arbitration and Mediation Centre, the Singapore International Arbitration Centre provided professional consulting and conducted training for the employees, sharing its rich experience. The Minister also emphasised the importance of ratification of the Singapore Convention, stating that Armenia has signed it and that discussions are currently underway with the colleagues of Government and the National Assembly for ratification of the Convention. Srbuhi Galyan expressed hope that, as a result of these meetings, more justifications will be generated as to why ratification of the Convention is necessary for Armenia. The parties considered further possible directions for co-operation, particularly within the scope of programmes for professional development and exchange of experience. The Minister invited the representatives of the Centres to take part in the International Arbitration Week in Armenia (3-5 September).
