The purpose of the meeting was to discuss issues on fighting corruption. The Minister informed that the Ministry of Justice has already taken several major steps aimed at fighting corruption, but there is still a lot of work to do.

The Ministers discussed several programmes aimed at deepening and enhancing mutual co-operation in the justice sector. Arpine Hovhannisyan highly appreciated the existing co-operation between partner structures of both countries and expressed willingness to expand and intensify that co-operation.

The Council was established within the scope of "Improving Access to Justice for Children in Armenia" Programme, which is carried out by the Ministry of Justice and the UNICEF.

Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan visited "Armavir" Penitentiary Institution, where four new auxiliary buildings designed for 800 convicts of the Penitentiary Institution were put into operation today. Accompanied by those responsible for the sector, deputies of the National Assembly, Ambassador, Head of the Delegation of the European Union Piotr Switalski, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Armenia Richard Mills and the representatives of other international organisations, Hovik Abrahamyan toured the newly built auxiliary buildings and got acquainted with the work carried out and the conditions of Penitentiary Institution built in compliance with international standards.
