Minister of Justice Artak Zeynalyan tours State Probation Service of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia
During the tour, Minister Zeynalyan held a consultation with the management staff of the State Probation Service during which a number of key issues on ensuring efficiency of the Service were discussed, particularly, the opportunities for the introduction and development of an alternative measure of restraint through the application of electronic monitoring, as well as the steps aimed at raising the level of efficiency of the work carried out by persons involved in public works.

During the tour, the first meeting was with the staff of the penitentiary institution, and in his speech addressed to the staff, the Minister noted that the public had great expectations from the penitentiary system and that, throughout the years, the public has formed stereotypical perceptions about the Service ensuring execution of punishment for both objective and subjective motives.
Identifying a defence counsel with a client is impermissible-Ministry of Justice
It should be mentioned that, pursuant to part 1 of Article 162 of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, in the Republic of Armenia, justice shall be administered only by courts in compliance with the Constitution and laws. Prior to entry into force of the indictment delivered by the court, every accused is considered as innocent; thus, an advocate may not assume the role of a judge and refuse to defend any person based on his or her presumption of guilt.

Clarification of case under examination in international tribunal

Project aimed at ensuring medical aid and proper provision of services at penitentiary institutions
Adoption of the mentioned drafts will help ensure proper provision of medical aid and services for detained persons and convicts, specify the volume and content of services and medical aid provided to detained persons and convicts, ensure efficiency of the process for referral of detained persons and convicts and create necessary guarantees and mechanisms for ensuring the right of detained persons and convicts to health maintenance.
