Statement of the Ministry of Justice on the issue of reducing judges’ pensions
The Ministry of Justice declares that it still has not received the draft posted by the partnering Ministry on the unified website for publication of draft legal acts (www.e-draft.am).
Vigen Kocharyan presents in Washington DC the reforms under implementation in the judicial-legal sector in Armenia
During the conference, Vigen Kocharyan touched upon the implemented and envisaged projects for reforms in the human rights protection sector and the judicial-legal sector in Armenia, as well as presented the developments in relation to implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in Armenia, including the progress achieved by the Republic of Armenia in the processes of nationalisation and implementation of the 17 Goals included in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Legislative reforms for persons deprived of liberty to exercise their rights
In particular, as a result of the studies carried out at penitentiary institutions of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia in 2016, a number of issues related to exercise of the rights of persons deprived of liberty were recorded and were touched upon in the annual report on the activities of the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia as a national preventive mechanism for the year 2016.

Welcoming the visit of the delegation to Armenia, the Acting Minister noted that the values predetermined during the meeting held within the scope of the visit to Venice in June were being preserved and that the new Government was implementing them.
A number of issues devoted to protection of the best interest of the child discussed
Suren Krmoyan noted that the rights of the child are regulated in detail and the concept of "the best interest of the child" is prescribed by the Constitution and laws. Nevertheless, in both criminal and civil proceedings, the practical problems that often emerge are problems, the solution to which requires not only legal mechanisms, but also extensive work and mechanisms in terms of psychology and society.

Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Suren Krmoyan expressed gratitude to his counterparts for the initiative devoted to protection of the rights and interests of persons in places of imprisonment and noted that, in case of existence of effectively operating systems and projects for prison education, the positive impact would be visible for the whole society. According to the Deputy Minister, the Government has recently been implementing large-scale reforms in the sectors of criminal justice and criminal punishments.
